We Gots Stigmata
After reading Miss O'Kitten's post I thought maybe I'd add a little insight into our freakish thought processes regarding the name. We were probably drinking at the time. OK, yes, we were drinking. Hush.
When we were throwing names around I found these definitions in my 1950's Webster's, with stigma being the singular of stigmata.
1. A distinguishing mark burned or cut into the flesh.
2. A mark of disgrace or reproach.
3. A mark, sign, etc., indicating that something is not considered normal or standard.
4. Some religious something or other, mumble ramble. Saints with bleeding sores amuse me!
5. A couple other botanical & medical terms that weren't as cool.
The topper, I thought, was their Greek definition of stigma: a prick with a pointed instrument. Wounds caused by knitting needles? And we suffer for our art, dammit!

I think we should put the greek definition under our name at the top of the page...or should we just leave em guessing?
Sure! But "a prick with a pointed instrument" could mean a jerk guy with a pencil...
